MKITKHAVI
Fortune Teller of the Caucasus
In these pages I will introduce you to the art of fortune telling as
practiced in the ancient land of my birth, now the Republic of Georgia.
Georgia is a unique and beautiful place, spanning the mountains of
the Caucasus, the legendary font of humanity, and the glistening
Black Sea coast. In Georgia we honored gifted fortune tellers,
mkitkhavi, and they honored us not only with their advice but with
their knowledge. Here I hope to guide you as they guided me, helping
you to uncover your own gifts, as no other can have more insight into
your fortune.  But always remember, at best the cards can be a road
sign to the future, you can always choose a new path!
THE CARDS
To uncover fate we need a tool of fortune, and we use the simplest,
a modern deck of cards.  We only use part of the deck, from six to
ace in all four suits.  The deck included is already reduced to these,
and the basic foretellings associated with a card are written
on its face. However, a true fortune can’t be captured in a simple
phrase – it is the gift of the fortune teller to fill in the blanks. Just as
an artist can be taught styles and techniques, I can show you the
styles and techniques of the fortune tellers from my homeland. But
only you can create the finished product.
Now I’ll describe the process step-by-step. There are small
differences in the procedures depending on your gender and marital
status. What I describe below is meant for a single woman. The
variations for married women, men, divorcees and others are
described at the end.
You can use this guide to tell your own fortune or to tell the fortune
of another. However, we believe that physical contact with the cards
is important. Therefore, before telling someone else’s fortune have
them place the cards on their chair under their upper left leg and sit
on them for about twenty seconds.
 We also recommend that worn cards be replaced by a fresh deck;
wear and tear can change the outcome.
